HbA1c (Glycosylated Haemoglobin) is a standard blood sugar test that gives your average blood sugar level over past 3 months.
Glycosylated haemoglobin develops when haemoglobin which is a protein within red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout your body, joins with glucose in the blood, becoming ‘glycated’. For people with diabetes this is important as the higher the HbA1c, the greater the risk of developing diabetes-related complications. Undergo this test to screen for diabetes or to control your sugar levels to avoid complications that result from high blood sugar level.
