In obstetrics, fetal Doppler ultrasound measures the blood flow and examines the heart of the fetus, among other functions. Like all other types of ultrasound, fetal Doppler ultrasound is considered safe and painless. Also, doppler ultrasound is used to monitor high-risk pregnancies and time delivery appropriately. 

The role of fetal Doppler ultrasound is performed to;

• Measure blood flow in each part of the fetus (umbilical cord, brain, and fetal heart) to determine the appropriate absorption of oxygen and nutrients the baby needs. 
• Observe and examine blood flow through the arteries.
• Screening for congenital heart defects or birth defects.

What happens during Gynecology & Obstetrics Doppler Test?

The procedure is similar to normal ultrasound.  A type of ultrasound that uses a handheld device to detect changes in movement that are translated as sound. It helps the doctor assess the health and development of the fetus.

It is safe and highly accurate, A doppler ultrasound can also detect abnormalities that are often invisible with ultrasound. However, using the fetal Doppler, most mothers hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time during a routine checkup.
