Department of Cytology and Histopathology specializes in the microscopic examination of tissues and body fluids allowing us to detect and analyse abnormalities at cell and tissue level. We have experts to conduct tests like FNACs, PAP smears including LBCs and histopathological examination in addition to body fluid examination at cellular level.
What is the difference between Cytology and Histopathology?
Cytology involves the examination of individual cells. Meanwhile, Histopathology examines the entire block of tissues (which contains many types of cells) related to diseases.
Why is Cytology important?
Cytology studies single cells, as often found in fluid specimens. The test determines the risk of abnormalities and cancer. The pap smear test looks at cells to screen women for cervical cancer.
Why is Histopathology important?
Histopathology is crucial for understanding and detecting complicated diseases. The test helps see changes in tissue that explain the cause of illness. A small piece of a tissue sample is taken from the suspected organ(s) for examination, which is then processed for reporting purpose.
